*Box shows very slight wear
In 1919 the Australian government offered a £10,000 prize for the first Australians to fly from England to Australia in under 30 days. Brothers Ross and Keith Smith, with mechanics Wally Shiers and Jim Bennett, took off from Hounslow in a Vickers Vimy bomber on 12 November 1919 and landed in Darwin on 10 December, winning the race. For the flight’s 100th anniversary in 2019, Brisbane-based Alliance Airlines painted Fokker 70 VH-QQW in a special commemorative livery with portraits of the four-man crew.
