The Admiral Graf Spee was a Deutschland-class "pocket battleship" (Panzerschiff) of the German Kriegsmarine, armed with six 28cm guns in two triple turrets. As a commerce raider she ranged across the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans at the start of the Second World War, sinking nine merchant ships before being cornered. Following the Battle of the River Plate in December 1939, she was scuttled by her crew off Montevideo to avoid capture.
