The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the largest single-engine piston fighters of the Second World War, powered by the massive Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial. Used by the USAAF in almost every theatre, its rugged construction and long range made it an outstanding escort fighter and low-level ground attack aircraft. The RAF operated 16 squadrons of Thunderbolts in Burma in 1944. This is an early Frog boxing under the International Model Aircraft Ltd imprint, part of the "Black Series" with the Gold Token promotion — one of Frog's most recognisable packaging periods.
