The Macchi C.202 Folgore ("Lightning") was the best Italian fighter to serve in significant numbers during the Second World War. A development of the earlier C.200 Saetta, it replaced the underpowered Fiat radial with an Italian-built Daimler-Benz DB 601 inline engine, transforming handling and performance. Entering service in July 1941, it served primarily in North Africa and over Malta where it proved fully capable against contemporary RAF fighters, and also saw limited deployment on the Eastern Front. Over 1,100 were built before being succeeded by the C.205 Veltro. Frog first tooled this kit in 1963, making it the earliest injection-moulded 1/72 scale MC.202 and the only one available in the market for several years. Made in Great Britain by Rovex Industries Ltd.
