EDU8468 - Eduard 1/48 I-16 Type 24 - Weekend Edition - WWHP111920
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Polikarpov I-16 was the world's first cantilever monoplane fighter with retractable undercarriage to enter service, and it formed the backbone of Soviet fighter aviation from the mid-1930s through the early years of the Second World War. The Type 24 was one of the final and most capable production variants, powered by the Shvetsov M-62 radial engine and armed with four ShKAS machine guns. Though largely outclassed by 1941, the I-16 remained in frontline service during the brutal opening months of Operation Barbarossa, with pilots including ace Boris Safonov scoring kills against modern German types.
