he Spitfire's split flaps were pneumatically operated and sat almost flush when raised, which is why most kits mould them closed. Dropping them is the single easiest way to make a parked Spitfire look like it has just come off a sortie, and at 1/72 the only realistic way to get scale thickness on the flap panels is brass rather than plastic.
