The Sd.Kfz.251 halftrack carried the Panzergrenadiers, and the /10 variant carried their firepower. Mounting a 3.7cm Pak 36 behind its shield on the front of the crew compartment gave platoon commanders an anti-tank weapon that could keep pace with the advance rather than being towed behind it. By 1941 the little Pak 36 was already struggling against Soviet armour, which earned it the nickname Panzeranklopfgerät, the door knocker, but as a command vehicle with a useful gun the 251/10 served through the middle years of the war on every front.
