The Panther Ausf.G was the final production version of Germany's most influential wartime tank design, built from March 1944 with a redesigned hull that dropped the driver's vision port in favour of a simplified, stronger upper side plate. Late production examples added the chin mantlet to cure the shot trap under the original curved one, along with flame-dampening exhausts, a crew compartment heater with its distinctive fan tower, and all-steel road wheels on the last vehicles off the line. With 80mm of sloped hull front armour, 100mm on the turret face and the long 7.5cm KwK 42 L/70, the Panther G was arguably the best-balanced tank of the war on paper, if never a match for the Sherman and T-34 in numbers.
