The Sturm-Infanteriegeschütz 33 (StuIG 33) was a heavy infantry support vehicle created by mounting the 15 cm sIG 33 howitzer — normally a towed weapon — onto a modified Panzer III chassis within an armoured box casemate. Thirteen were built and deployed operationally at Stalingrad in late 1942 with the 23rd Panzer Division, where all were eventually lost. The type addressed a recognized need for a heavily protected, direct-fire infantry gun capable of demolishing fortified positions at close range. Dragon's kit #6042, released in 1995, was the first serious attempt at this obscure vehicle in 1/35 scale and remains well-regarded for its detail relative to its era.
