The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien ("Swallow") was Japan's only liquid-cooled inline-engined fighter of WWII, powered by a licence-built version of the Daimler-Benz DB 601. Its unfamiliar profile led Allied intelligence to initially mistake it for a German or Italian type, earning it the reporting name "Tony." The Ki-61-1 Hei was the third production sub-variant, distinguished by heavier 20mm wing armament, and saw extensive service in the defence of the Japanese home islands in 1944–45.

From Dragon's Golden Wings Series, this 1/72 kit was new-tool for 1994.
