Description

Bandai 5063139 - HG 1/144 Atlas Gundam (Gundam Thunderbolt Ver)

Bandai's 1/144 High Grade kit of the Atlas Gundam presents it as it was seen in "Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt"! Piloted by Io Fleming, this amphibious Gundam is equipped with two beam sabers (including a blade), a railgun, a blade shield, an assault rifle, and two sub legs!

The Bandai HG 1/144 RX-78AL Atlas Gundam (Gundam Thunderbolt Ver.) (5063139) is a High Grade model kit from Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, representing Io Fleming’s highly unconventional amphibious Gundam designed for both ground and ocean combat.

This HG kit uses Bandai’s snap-fit system with color-separated parts, allowing it to be built without glue or paint while still capturing the complex, rugged design of the Atlas Gundam as seen in the OVA and manga.

The Atlas Gundam stands out in the Thunderbolt lineup due to its extreme mobility-focused equipment, especially its signature sub-legs system mounted on the backpack. These legs function as both stabilizers and alternate locomotion units, letting the mobile suit maneuver across land, water, and debris-heavy environments with unusual agility.

Its weapon loadout is very “all-rounder” and heavily tactical, including:

  • Beam rifle / assault rifle system
  • Railgun for high-impact fire support
  • Beam sabers (with blade effect parts)
  • Shield with integrated blade weapon
  • Sub-legs that double as movement or support units

One of the defining visual features is its asymmetric, multi-layered design, with exposed mechanical structure, thrusters, and backpack-mounted equipment that give it a rugged, almost experimental military feel rather than a traditional Gundam “hero” silhouette. This fits Thunderbolt’s darker, more industrial aesthetic.

In terms of articulation, the HG Atlas Gundam is surprisingly capable for its class. The ball-jointed sub-legs and multi-axis backpack allow for dynamic poses such as:

  • Low hover or landing stances
  • Heavy weapon firing positions
  • Wide, grounded “support frame” poses using the sub-legs

The kit is also known for having a high part count and detail density for an HG, making it feel closer to a Real Grade-level experience in complexity, especially in the backpack and weapon systems.

The Bandai HG Atlas Gundam is a strong choice for Gundam Thunderbolt fans or collectors who enjoy experimental, heavily armed mobile suits with unusual movement systems and gritty mechanical design. It stands out as one of the most distinctive HG UC kits thanks to its sub-leg mobility gimmick and aggressive battlefield role.
