The Mooney M20E Super 21 arrived in 1964 as a fuel-injected, 200 hp development of Al Mooney's four-seat M20 series, quickly earning a reputation as one of the fastest and most efficient single-engine piston aircraft of its day, instantly recognisable by its forward-swept tail. Around 1970 the type was briefly marketed as the Aerostar M20E after Butler Aviation took over Mooney. Bandai released this 1/48 kit in the 1970s as part of its US-market Weekend Wings series, moulded in precoloured plastic and depicting the Japanese-registered JA3318.
