AOSWLA112 - Aoshima 1/700 Waterline Series H.M.S. Aircraft Carrier Illustrious - WWHP111510
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
HMS Illustrious was the lead ship of the Royal Navy's Illustrious-class armoured carriers, commissioned April 1940 and notable for being the first carrier class with an armoured flight deck — a design choice that proved crucial when she survived a concentrated German dive-bomber attack off Malta in January 1941. She conducted the famous Taranto raid in November 1940, in which Swordfish torpedo bombers disabled three Italian battleships in a single night attack. She served in the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, and Pacific theatres before decommissioning in 1954.
