Chevrolet's Advance-Design trucks arrived in 1947 as the first all-new postwar design from any American manufacturer, and by 1950 the formula was working so well that Chevrolet truck production and sales hit record levels. The half-ton 3100 was the volume model, carrying the five-bar grille, a roomier cab with better visibility than anything prewar, and the 216 cubic inch Thriftmaster six rated at 92 horsepower through a three-speed synchromesh manual. That combination of honest proportions and mechanical simplicity is exactly why the Advance-Design pickup remains one of the most restored and hot rodded trucks in North America.
