The 1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty was built for the drag strip and NASCAR, using aluminium body panels and the 421 cubic inch Super Duty V8 rated at 405 horsepower with dual four-barrel carburettors. Pontiac produced only a small number before General Motors withdrew from factory racing in early 1963, which makes the Super Duty Catalinas among the most sought-after Pontiacs of the era.
