Chevrolet introduced the Impala for 1958 as the top-of-the-line Bel Air Impala, offered only as a sport coupe and convertible on a longer, lower, wider body that would last just one year. Six taillights, sculpted rear quarters and the new 348 cu. in. W-series V8 made it an instant favourite, and it became a series of its own for 1959. Its one-year styling has kept it a favourite with customizers ever since.
