The Lavochkin La-5 first flew in March 1942, and its M-82 radial engine made it one of the Soviet Union's most important fighters. For the La-5FN, engineers added direct fuel injection to the M-82FN engine, raising output to 1,630 hp and top speed to 648 km/h, which let it meet the latest German fighters on equal terms. Amodel's limited edition short run kit carries box art honouring ace Georgy Baevsky, with "68" in the lion-emblem markings.
