The JC-130A was a specialized variant of the C-130A Hercules configured for mid-air retrieval of film capsules ejected by Corona reconnaissance satellites during their re-entry from orbit. Operating primarily from Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii, the aircraft deployed a recovery apparatus called the "Loop" — a nylon rope with brass hooks — to snatch the descending capsule and its parachute in flight. The programme was a critical component of US Cold War intelligence-gathering operations, allowing spy satellite imagery to be recovered before it could be lost at sea. Amodel's 2011 kit is a new-parts rebox on the C-130A family tooling.
