The Seafire FR.46 and FR.47 represented the ultimate evolution of the Supermarine Spitfire lineage adapted for carrier operations, powered by the Rolls-Royce Griffon engine driving contra-rotating propellers. Entering Royal Navy service in the late 1940s, these variants saw combat during the Malayan Emergency and the Korean War, making them among the last piston-engined fighters to see action in British service. The FR.47 in particular distinguished itself as one of the most capable naval fighters of its era before the jet age rendered it obsolete.
