The FA2 was the Sea Harrier brought up to date after the Falklands, with the Blue Vixen pulse doppler radar in a bulged nose and AMRAAM missiles giving the Fleet Air Arm a genuine beyond visual range punch from a ski jump deck. Blue Vixen was widely regarded as one of the best fighter radars of its era, and the pairing made a small vertical landing jet a serious air defence aircraft. FA2s flew over Bosnia and Iraq before the type retired in 2006.
