The Bristol Freighter was built around its clamshell nose doors, a slab-sided high-wing hauler that could swallow motor cars whole. Silver City Airways turned that into a business, flying cars and their owners across the Channel from Lydd to Le Touquet in twenty minutes, and by the mid-1950s the cross-Channel car ferry was carrying tens of thousands of vehicles a year. The Superfreighter was the stretched Mk 32 with a taller fin and room for three cars plus twenty passengers. G-ANWK, wearing the Silver City scheme on this box, was one of them.
