The NASA Space Shuttle launched as a stack of three elements: the reusable orbiter, a large external propellant tank and two solid rocket boosters. Enterprise, the orbiter named on this kit's decals, was rolled out in 1976 and used for the approach and landing test programme rather than spaceflight. Spacelab was the pressurised laboratory module carried in the orbiter's payload bay.
