The Bf 109F was the point where Messerschmitt's fighter looked its best. The wing tips were rounded off, the tail struts deleted, the nose reshaped around a smoother cowling, and the whole aeroplane came out cleaner and better mannered than the E it replaced. It arrived in 1941 and carried the Luftwaffe through the Channel front, the opening of the Eastern Front and the fighting over North Africa, where the tropical filtered version served with the desert Jagdgeschwader. Many German pilots considered the F the finest handling 109 of them all. This is Airfix's Series 4 tooling from the late 1970s, made in England.
