Airfix's 1975 new-tool Spitfire VB (©Airfix Products Ltd 1974 on the box), Series 2, Made in England, with Roy Cross box art. This tooling replaced the 1950s original and remained the standard Airfix 1/72 Spitfire V for decades. Decals for two famous aircraft: BM144 / RF-D of No. 303 (Polish) Squadron RAF, the box-art machine with the squadron's Donald Duck emblem, and EN851 / MX-D "Lima Challenger" of the USAAF 31st Fighter Group, one of the American-flown Spitfires (shown on the side panel).

The Spitfire Mk V was the most-produced Spitfire variant, the RAF's frontline fighter through 1941-42 and the first to serve in large numbers overseas, from Malta to North Africa, and with Polish, American, and Commonwealth squadrons.
