Description
AIR02045 - Airfix - 1/72 Hawker Sea Fury FB.11 - WWHP113584
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Sea Fury was the last piston-engined fighter to serve with the Royal Navy and the fastest the Fleet Air Arm ever operated, its Bristol Centaurus eighteen-cylinder radial driving a five-bladed propeller. The FB.11 flew from British carriers throughout the Korean War, where it also did the sort of work no one expected from a propeller aircraft: in August 1952 a flight of four 802 Squadron machines led by Lieutenant Peter Carmichael was intercepted by eight MiG-15s, and one MiG was shot down, the most significant Royal Navy air combat victory of the era.
Box contents:
- Grey styrene sprues with clear parts for the bubble canopy
- Parts for one model with five-bladed propeller, underwing stores and folding-wing detail
- Decal sheet for two aircraft: VR930 of the Royal Naval Historic Flight and WJ232 of 802 NAS aboard HMS Ocean, with roundels, ROYAL NAVY titles, invasion-style stripes and a full stencil set
- Illustrated multilingual assembly and painting instruction sheet with historical notes
