The sIG 33 was Germany's standard heavy infantry support gun of the Second World War, a 15cm weapon designed to give infantry regiments their own organic heavy firepower. Introduced in the 1930s, it served on every front from Poland to the final defence of the Reich, towed by horse teams or motor vehicles and later mounted on various tank chassis as self-propelled variants. Its short barrel and high-angle fire made it effective against fortifications and dug-in positions.
