The Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat was the US Navy's principal carrier fighter in the early Pacific war, the folding-wing, six-gun version that equipped squadrons at Midway and over Guadalcanal. Rugged and heavily armed if outpaced by the A6M Zero, it held the line until newer types arrived and remained a mainstay of escort-carrier units throughout the war. This is Academy's 1/72 tooling, first released in the late 1980s.
