The MiG-27 was the dedicated ground attack development of the swing wing MiG-23, and it looked the part. The radar nose gave way to a sharply sloped "duckbill" forward fuselage housing a laser rangefinder and giving the pilot a far better view over the nose, the intakes and nozzle were simplified for low level work, and a six barrelled 30mm cannon was buried in the belly. NATO knew it as Flogger D. Entering Soviet service in 1975, it flew extensively in Afghanistan and was also licence built in India as the Bahadur, serving there until 2019.
