Description
MENDS002 - Meng 1/72 Mansyu Ki-98 - WWHP111898
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Mansyu Ki-98 was a twin-boom, pusher-engined ground attack and high-altitude interceptor prototype developed by the Manchuria Airplane Manufacturing Company for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force. Designed around a 2,200-horsepower turbosupercharged Mitsubishi Ha-211 Ru radial engine mounted behind the pilot in pusher configuration, the Ki-98's unusual layout freed the nose to carry a 37mm cannon and two 20mm cannon. Construction of the sole prototype began in January 1945 at Mansyu's Harbin factory but was repeatedly delayed by Allied bombing raids; when Soviet forces invaded Manchuria in August 1945, the unfinished prototype was deliberately destroyed to prevent capture. The Ki-98 never flew.
This kit is part of Meng's Dimorphodon Series, a 1/72 line dedicated to rare, experimental, and prototype aircraft subjects.
