The original Hasegawa MiG-21 mold dates to 1966, making it one of the earliest 1/72 kits of the type — produced at a time when Western intelligence on the aircraft was still fairly limited, which adds some historical interest to the kit itself. The MiG-21 was the Soviet answer to the F-104 generation: a small, fast, delta-winged point interceptor that ended up being one of the most widely exported and widely used jet fighters in history, seeing combat from Vietnam to the Middle East to Africa.

This Minicraft-distributed boxing is the US market release of that same Hasegawa tooling. First-generation raised panel lines and a simple parts count, typical of the era. A genuine vintage kit of an iconic Cold War subject.
