The M8 was a six-wheeled armoured car built by Ford, armed with a 37mm M6 gun in an open-topped turret and capable of 90 km/h on roads. It entered service in Italy in 1943 and became the standard reconnaissance vehicle of American armoured divisions in North West Europe, also serving in numbers with the Free French. British crews gave it the name Greyhound. Fast and well suited to road work, it was thinly armoured and never intended to engage tanks.
