The Rafale A was the technology demonstrator that paved the way for France's production Dassault Rafale, making its first flight from Istres on 4 July 1986. Larger than the later service aircraft and initially powered by two General Electric F404 engines, it validated the composite construction, delta-canard layout, and fly-by-wire systems that defined the operational Rafale. This Heller tooling represents the prototype in its 1989 demonstrator scheme.
