The German 8.8cm Flak 18 was the original production model of the legendary "88," a heavy anti-aircraft gun that entered service in the 1930s and first saw combat in the Spanish Civil War. Though designed for the anti-aircraft role, its high muzzle velocity and long barrel made it a devastating anti-tank weapon, able to knock out any Allied tank at long range. It laid the foundation for the improved Flak 36/37 and the tank-mounted KwK series.
