Description
HASCH008 - Hasegawa 1/48 McDonnell Douglas British Phantom FG.1 [F-4 Phantom 25th Anniversary] - WWWEB10110535
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The McDonnell Douglas F-4K Phantom FG.1 was a carrier-capable variant developed specifically for the Royal Navy, powered by Rolls-Royce Spey engines in place of the standard J79s. The type entered Fleet Air Arm service in 1969 and later transferred to the RAF following the cancellation of the CVA-01 carrier programme. To mark the 25th anniversary of the Phantom's first flight in 1958, A&AEE Boscombe Down applied a distinctive red, white, and blue "raspberry ripple" colour scheme to FG.1 XT597, which appeared at the International Air Tattoo at RAF Greenham Common in 1983.
This is the original 1987 Collectors' Hi-Grade release — not the later 2003 reissue, which omitted the metal parts.
Box contents:
- Injection-moulded plastic sprues (grey and clear)
- White metal parts: undercarriage legs, refuelling probe, ejector seats
- Turned metal parts (wheels)
- Photo-etched brass fret — cockpit detail
- Rubber tyres
- Waterslide decal sheet
- Markings for one aircraft: XT597, A&AEE Boscombe Down, 25th Anniversary scheme, IAT Greenham Common 1983 (note: this aircraft carried a non-standard, broader-profile radome — the kit includes appropriate parts)
