The Vickers was a water-cooled .303 medium machine gun designed in the First World War and still in wide British and Commonwealth service through the Second. Able to fire for long periods without overheating, it provided sustained fire support, and in the Northwest Europe campaign after D-Day these teams used it to suppress enemy positions, cover advances, and break up counterattacks.
