The US Navy went looking for an S-2 Tracker replacement in 1968 and Lockheed won with the S-3 Viking, a compact carrier borne jet packed with sonobuoys, a MAD boom, FLIR, and a digital computer running the lot. Four crew, high wing turbofans, and enough endurance to hunt submarines far from the carrier.

This is ESCI kit 4051 in 1/48, made in Italy and box art by Yoshi Takani. Light grey styrene with clear parts, weapons bay, retractable MAD boom, and underwing pylons. Cartograf decals cover an aircraft of VS-29 "Vikings" aboard USS Ranger, complete with the Norse longship tail art.
