The Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR was developed by AMG for the inaugural FIA GT Championship season in 1997, powered by a naturally aspirated 6.0L V12 in a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. AMG-Mercedes won six of eleven races that season, taking both the Teams' and Drivers' Championships — the latter with Bernd Schneider. The CLK-GTR was homologated as a road car with just 25 examples built, making it one of the rarest and most extreme road-legal GT cars of the era.
