The MiG-21 was the Soviet answer to the supersonic interceptor problem, and it turned into the most produced jet fighter in history. A tailed delta wing, a nose intake with a moveable shock cone and a light airframe gave it climb and speed on a very small budget, at the cost of short range and a spartan cockpit. It fought over Vietnam and the Middle East, equipped more than fifty air forces including Finland, and examples remain in service more than sixty years after its debut.
