Description
AIRA05130 - Airfix 1/48 Curtiss P-40B Warhawk - Preowned10118099
Preowned, Original seal, Mint
The Curtiss P-40B (Hawk 81-A-2) was the primary US Army Air Corps fighter at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, and simultaneously the mount of the American Volunteer Group — the "Flying Tigers" — in China. While outperformed by the Japanese Zero in many respects, the P-40B's rugged construction and pilot armour gave it a survivability edge that skilled pilots exploited to great effect. A handful of USAAF pilots managed to get airborne during the Pearl Harbor attack; 2nd Lieutenant George Welch of the 47th Pursuit Squadron was among the most successful, claiming four confirmed kills that morning.
