Description
AIR482 - Airfix 1/72 Fairey Rotodyne - WWHP111820
Preowned, resealed, some parts off sprue. box worn
The Fairey Rotodyne was a British compound gyroplane developed in the 1950s as a vertical take-off airliner for inter-city passenger and freight service. The single prototype, XE521, first flew in 1957 and used tip-jet-driven rotors for vertical lift before transitioning to forward flight on its Napier Eland turboprops. Despite promising trials, the programme was cancelled in 1962 with only one aircraft built. This is the original Airfix tooling, first issued in 1959, in the Pattern No. 482 boxing.
Box contents:
- Moulded fuselage halves and component parts in silver-grey plastic
- Clear parts for cockpit and cabin glazing
- Waterslide decal sheet (XE521 markings, Fairey Rotodyne titles, manufacturer crests)
- Illustrated instruction and history leaflet
- Original lidded box with Pattern No. 482 end flap
