Marcello Gandini's Countach landed at Geneva in 1971 looking like nothing else on the road, and Lamborghini spent the next sixteen years making it wilder rather than calmer. The LP 500 S of 1982 stretched the V12 to 4.8 litres, sat on the fat arches and Pirelli P7s that came in with the S, and offered the rear wing that ended up on almost every poster of the decade. The scissor doors, the periscope roof and the impossible rearward visibility all became part of the legend.
