Imperial Japanese Navy early-war overall grey (often Ame-iro; approx. FS 26350 / FS 36357 range, varies by manufacturer) — factory finish before widespread green overpainting, approx. 1937–1942. Applied to: Mitsubishi A6M2 Model 21, A6M2-N (Rufe), early A6M3 Model 32; Nakajima B5N2 (Kate); Aichi D3A1 (Val); Mitsubishi G3M (Nell); early Mitsubishi G4M1 (Betty); Kawanishi E7K (Alf); Nakajima E8N (Dave); floatplanes including F1M2 (Pete). Used in Second Sino-Japanese War (1937–1941), Pearl Harbor (1941), early Pacific campaigns including Philippines, Malaya, Dutch East Indies (1941–1942).

Application: Water-based acrylic. Thin with water for brush painting, or Vallejo Acrylic Thinner for airbrushing. Add a few drops of Vallejo Flow Improver to cut surface tension, improve levelling, slow tip dry, and allow water-based acrylics to spray like a lacquer or solvent-based paint. Aim for a milk-like consistency.
