The Lockheed C-5B Galaxy plane is a four-engine heavy transport plane in a cantilever high wing system. In March 1968, the first C-5A was completed, and its flight took place on June 30 of that year. The first five aircraft were delivered in 1969, normal production continued until 1973, when the Air Force took delivery of a total of 79 C-5As. In 1999, the modernization of the C-5 - C-5M fleet began. It consists of two programs: Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) - analogue to digital avionics exchange program, and Reliability Enhancement and Re-engining Program (RERP) - program for increasing the durability of the structure and replacing engines with engines used in passenger aircraft (General Electric CF6 -80C2L1F). 112 C-5A and C-5B aircraft were upgraded to the C-5M standard.
