- The MLRS, which was so devastating in the Gulf War, weighed over 24 tons, requiring a large transport aircraft for transportation, making it unsuitable for situations or units that required speed.
- HIMARS was developed as a support weapon capable of area control that can respond to emergency deployment and rapid transportation of troops.
- HIMARS has the capability to fire all of the weapons used by MLRS, but its vehicle weight has been kept to 13.7 tons, making it possible for it to travel long distances on its own.
