The Toyota Prius is a Japanese compact car that was first introduced to the public in 1996 at the Tokyo Motor Show. Its series production began a year later (1997) and continues to this day. Among others, it was concentrated in plants located in the Japanese cities of Takaoka and Tsutsumi.

The Prius model was developed and put into production to expand Toyota's commercial offering and expand the compact car segment with a hybrid drive. The Toyota Prius was the first gasoline and electric car to be produced on such a large scale. Initially, it was mainly offered in Japan, and only a few years later it was sold in Europe and the USA. Thanks to its flexibility, it won prestigious industry awards in 1997-1998. Four generations of the Prius model appeared during mass production, the last of which was presented in 2015. The Toyota Prius was offered in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 5-door liftback and 5-door hatchback. The price of a new car on the Polish market starts from PLN 119,900.
