AK Interactive Real Colors Civil Paint Guide

For automotive & motorcycle scale modellers — Formula 1, sports cars, rally, road cars & motorcycles · 30 colours · All SKUs link to product pages

About AK Real Colors Civil. The AK Interactive Real Colors Civil range (RC821–RC850) is a 30-colour set of subject-specific lacquers for automotive and motorcycle scale modelling — Formula 1, sports cars, rally cars, road cars, and motorcycles. Unlike generic hobby colours, these are formulated to match documented period shades: the exact Gulf Orange of the 1969 Le Mans-winning GT40, the specific Maranello red of the 1970s Ferrari F1 cars, or the two distinct Subaru WRC blues used across the Prodrive championship years. All are lacquer-based in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle and compatible with AK RC701 / RC702 High Compatibility Thinner, Tamiya Lacquer Thinner, Mr. Color Thinner, and Mr. Color Leveling Thinner.

Clear & Transparent Colours — RC821–RC826

Six transparent lacquers for any subject where the underlying surface needs to show through: tail lights, indicator lenses, brake light covers, tinted windows, coloured windscreens, and headlight surrounds. Applied directly over a silver or chrome base coat they produce a convincing translucent coloured lens effect. Clear Smoke is particularly useful for darkened glass, smoked perspex panels, and tinted visor effects on helmet subjects.

Because these are lacquer-based, they bond well over bare plastic, painted surfaces, and foil — no adhesion issues common with acrylic clear colours over lacquer base coats.

Foundation Colours — RC827–RC831

Five colours that appear across virtually every subject in the Civil range regardless of marque, era, or category. Solid White is the correct base for any white-bodied subject and is tuned for the high-gloss, show-finish appearance of painted bodywork rather than flat military surfaces — it differs from the Standard range whites (RC806 and RC807) which are formulated for flat and semi-flat finishes. British F1 Black is the deep gloss black used for tub and bodywork on carbon-era Formula 1 cars. Carbon Fibre Grey is the correct colour for raw carbon fibre panels before a clear coat — also useful for darkened carbon weave effects on modern supercars and MotoGP machines.

The two gold tones address the specific metallic requirements of the civil range: Wheel Rim Gold for cast magnesium wheel surfaces (Campagnolo, OZ, BBS rims on period road and race cars) and Fork Gold for anodised aluminium suspension forks and upright components on motorcycles — a distinctly different metallic tone from a standard gold.

Italian Reds — RC832–RC836

Five distinct Italian reds addressing one of the most nuanced colour challenges in automotive and motorcycle scale modelling. The shade of Rosso Corsa — the Italian national racing colour — varied significantly between eras, manufacturers, and even individual model years. AK has broken this down into four subject-specific variants plus a general Italian red, which makes a material difference to accuracy on any Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, or Ducati subject.

Formula 1 & Racing

Alfa BT Red and Maranello F1 Red cover the period from the early 1970s through to the mid-1980s — the Niki Lauda, Jody Scheckter, and Gilles Villeneuve era at Ferrari. Alfa BT Red is correct for the Alfa Romeo 33TT12, Brabham BT45 (Alfa-engined), and Autodelta-era Alfa racers. Maranello F1 Red 1970s–80s is the correct period shade for the Ferrari 312T, 312T2, 312T3, 312T4, 312T5, 126C, 126C2, 126C3, 156/85, and F1/86 — a deeper, slightly more orange-warm red than the road car colour of the same era.

Road Cars

Maranello Red 300 is the correct shade for Ferrari road car production — the Ferrari 308 GTB/GTS, 328, 348, 456, 550 Maranello, 575M, and F430 in Rosso Corsa. It is subtly different from the F1 cars of the same period — slightly cooler and more pure red. Italian Red is a versatile general-purpose Italian red suitable for Alfa Romeo road cars, Lancia rally and road subjects, and any Italian road car requiring a strong mid-red rather than a specific marque shade.

Motorcycles

Panigale Red is specific to the current generation Ducati — the Ducati 1199 Panigale, 1299 Panigale, V2, V4, and V4S in factory Rosso livery. It is a slightly darker, more saturated red than earlier Ducati production (the 916/996/998/999 generation used a different shade) and distinct from the Ferrari road car colours.

Oranges — RC837–RC840

Four orange tones covering fluorescent high-visibility applications, one of the most recognisable livery colours in motorsport history, and the distinctive deep orange of German sports machinery.

Gulf Orange is the defining colour of the Gulf Oil livery — the pale powder-blue and orange scheme that appeared on the Ford GT40 (chassis 1075, Le Mans 1968 and 1969), Porsche 917K (John Wyer Automotive, Le Mans 1970–71), Mirage M6, Gulf-Porsche 956/962, and more recently on the McLaren F1 GTR and various revival liveries. It is a specific, carefully calibrated shade — not a general orange — and arguably the most modelled livery colour in the automotive hobby after British Racing Green.

Jäger Orange is the Jägermeister sponsorship orange applied to the BMW M1 Procar (1979–80), March 811 F1, and various touring car subjects in German racing during the late 1970s and 1980s. A richer, deeper orange than Gulf.

Yellows — RC841

One highly specific yellow covering the Gitanes/Renault sponsorship yellow used on French Formula 1 machinery in the late 1970s and 1980s. French F1 Yellow is the correct colour for the Renault RS01, RS10, RE20, RE30, RE30B, RE40 in the Elf-Renault works livery — the yellow that appeared alongside the distinctive black and white scheme during the turbo era when Renault brought the first turbocharged engine to Formula 1. Also correct for the Ligier JS11, JS15, JS17 in Gitanes/Loto livery, and some Talbot-Ligier subjects. A warm, slightly golden yellow rather than a pure primary yellow.

Blues — RC842–RC846

Five blues covering general automotive applications, two of the most iconic livery blues in motorsport, and the two specific Subaru Impreza WRC shades that changed between the Prodrive eras.

General & Formula 1

Light Blue is a versatile general automotive blue suitable for road car bodywork, livery accents, and any subject requiring a mid-range bright blue. Tyrrell Blue is the specific deep navy applied to the Tyrrell 006 (Jackie Stewart's final championship car, 1973), Tyrrell P34 six-wheeler (1976–77), Tyrrell 008 and 009, and subsequent Tyrrell F1 machinery through the early 1980s — one of the most recognisable and frequently modelled F1 liveries.

Gulf Livery

Gulf Blue is the powder-blue component of the Gulf Oil livery — paired with Gulf Orange (RC839) it produces the complete scheme. Correct for the same subjects: Ford GT40 (JWA), Porsche 917K, Mirage M6, Gulf-Porsche 956/962, McLaren F1 GTR Gulf. The blue is a very specific pale powder-blue — not a standard light blue — and the relationship between this shade and the Gulf Orange is critical to the livery reading correctly at scale.

Subaru WRC

Two distinct blues for two distinct Subaru Impreza WRC eras. The Prodrive Subaru World Rally Team ran slightly different shades of blue across their championship years — AK's separation of 74F (1997–2002) and 02C (2001–2006) is accurate and important for modellers building specific championship cars. Subjects include the Subaru Impreza WRC 1997, 1998, 1999 (McRae/Burns era, 74F blue) and the Subaru Impreza WRC 2001, 2003, 2005 (Solberg era, transitional and 02C blue).

Greens — RC847–RC849

Three greens covering the full spectrum from the darkest and most historic motorsport colour to a vivid modern motorcycle brand colour.

British Racing Green is the British national racing colour — one of the oldest and most storied colours in motorsport. At scale it appears on an enormous range of subjects: Vanwall VW5 (Stirling Moss, 1957), BRM P57 (Graham Hill, 1962 championship), Lotus 49 and 49B (Jim Clark/Graham Hill), Tyrrell 001/003 (pre-Elf sponsorship), and in road car modelling on the Jaguar E-Type, Aston Martin DB5/DB6, Austin-Healey 3000, MG MGB/MGC, Triumph TR4/TR6, and practically every British sports car of the 1950s–70s. The shade varies historically — AK's version represents the rich dark green of the 1960s–70s rather than the very dark pre-war shade or the lighter modern BRG revival.

Vaillant Green is specific to the Vaillant heating company sponsorship applied across multiple motorsport subjects in the late 1970s and 1980s — most notably the Rolf Stommelen Heidegger Porsche 935 and various German touring car entries. A lighter, more vivid green than BRG.

Ninja Green is Kawasaki's signature lime-green applied to the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R, ZX-7R, ZX-9R, ZX-10R, and ZX-12R production motorcycles and the Kawasaki Ninja H2/H2R. Also correct for Kawasaki's MotoGP and World Superbike race machines in factory livery.

AKIRC849 Ninja GreenNinja Green — Kawasaki Ninja ZX series, H2/H2R, MotoGP and WSBK Kawasaki factory livery

Special Effects — RC850

Holographic Pearl is a specialised effect lacquer for show car, custom automotive, and motorcycle bodywork subjects where a pearlescent or colour-shifting finish is required. Applied over a white or silver base it produces the shifting iridescent quality of factory pearl paint jobs — particularly relevant for Japanese domestic market vehicles and custom show cars where pearl finishes were extensively used from the 1990s onward. Also useful for motorcycle fairing subjects in pearl white or pearl silver OEM finishes on Honda CBR, Yamaha YZF-R, and Suzuki GSX-R series in factory colour options.
