A very light, warm off-white grey tone — RAF Light Aircraft Grey BS381C/627, the standard lower surface colour for RAF tactical aircraft, bombers, and interceptors from 1965 through the 2000s, and a long-serving lower surface tone for maritime patrol and transport aircraft. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC972 is included in AK's Cold War & Modern RAF Aircraft Colors set and Modern Royal Air Force Aircraft Colors set.
RC972 RAF Light Aircraft Grey BS381C/627 was adopted as the lower surface colour for RAF tactical aircraft from 1965, pairing with Dark Green and Dark Sea Grey in the definitive Cold War tactical camouflage scheme. It served as the lower surface colour for RAF tactical aircraft from 1965 until the 1980s; RAF bombers (Vulcan, Victor) in the 1970s–1980s; RAF interceptors (Phantom FGR.2, Tornado F.3) from the late 1970s until withdrawal or the 2000s; RAF Nimrod patrol aircraft from the 1960s, Canberra PR.9, Victor and VC10 tankers from the 1980s until their respective withdrawals from service; and USMC AV-8A Harrier lower surfaces in the 1970s.
