Description

AKIRC968 - AK Interactive Real Colors RAF Dark Slate Grey 17 ml.

A dark, slightly warm olive-tinged grey-green tone — RAF Dark Slate Grey, one of the two upper surface colours in the Temperate Sea Scheme applied to Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and RAF Coastal Command aircraft from 1939, covering a broad range of carrier-based and maritime patrol types through to the end of the war. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC968 is included in AK's WWII RAF Coastal Command & RN Fleet Air Arm Colors set alongside Extra Dark Sea Grey (RC969).

RC968 RAF Dark Slate Grey was one of the two standard upper surface colours in the Temperate Sea Scheme adopted in 1939. It was applied to Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm aircraft from 1939 until the end of WWII, and to RAF Coastal Command operational aircraft from August 1941 until February 1943 when Extra Dark Sea Grey was specified as the single upper surface colour for most Coastal Command aircraft. It is therefore correct for Royal Navy FAA upper surface colour in the Temperate Sea Scheme 1939–end of WWII on the Swordfish, Albacore, Fulmar, Skua, Roc, Walrus, Barracuda, Firefly, and other FAA types; and RAF Coastal Command upper surface colour August 1941–February 1943 on the Beaufort, Blenheim, Beaufighter, Whitley (retained until later), and associated Coastal Command types.

  • RAF Coastal Command upper surface colour August 1941–February 1943: Beaufort, Blenheim, Beaufighter, Hudson, and associated types
