A warm, sandy tan tone — RAF Middle Stone, one of the two upper surface colours in the RAF Desert Scheme deployed to North Africa and the Mediterranean, pairing with Dark Earth (RC961) to form the two-tone upper surface pattern that replaced the Temperate Land Scheme's Dark Green on desert theatre aircraft. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC966 is included in AK's WWII RAF Aircraft Colors set and WWII RAF Aircraft Desert Colors set.

RC966 RAF Middle Stone was introduced as one of the two standard upper surface colours in the Desert Scheme from late 1941. For fighters it remained in use until September 1944; for day bombers it continued until the end of the war. It is therefore correct for RAF Desert Scheme upper surface colour late 1941–September 1944 (fighters) on the Hurricane Mk.IIC/IV, Kittyhawk Mk.I-III, Tomahawk, Spitfire Mk.V/VIII, Beaufighter Mk.VI/X, and other Middle East and Mediterranean fighter types; and RAF Desert Scheme upper surface colour late 1941–end of WWII (day bombers) on the Baltimore, Maryland, Mitchell, Marauder, Beaufort, and associated Mediterranean Theatre bomber types.
