A warm, medium brown tone — RAF Dark Earth, one of the two standard upper surface camouflage colours for RAF aircraft from 1938 through the end of the Second World War, appearing in both the Temperate Land Scheme on home-based fighters and bombers and the Desert Scheme on aircraft deployed to North Africa and the Mediterranean. Part of the AK Interactive Real Colors Military range in the new 17ml plastic dropper bottle, RC961 is included in AK's WWII RAF Aircraft Colors set, WWII RAF Aircraft Desert Colors set, and the WWII RAF SEAC Aircraft Colors set.

RC961 RAF Dark Earth was the standard upper surface camouflage colour used in combination with RAF Dark Green (RC960) in the Temperate Land Scheme applied to RAF fighters and bombers from 1938 until 1947, and with Middle Stone (RC966) and Azure Blue (RC965) in the Desert Scheme for aircraft operating in the Mediterranean Theatre. It also appeared in the SEAC (South-East Asia Command) scheme. It is therefore correct for RAF Temperate Land Scheme upper surface colour 1938–1947 on the Hurricane, Spitfire, Lancaster, Halifax, Stirling, Wellington, Typhoon, Tempest, Mosquito, and the full range of WWII RAF types; and for RAF Desert Scheme upper surface colour on the Hurricane, Tomahawk, Kittyhawk, Beaufighter, and associated North Africa and Mediterranean theatre types.
